Entry #8: Let's Be Honest With Each Other
Hey, Sunflower Socialites!
I hope you all have been having a great Thanksgiving holiday so far, with lots of great food and lots of time with family! It's always a lovely time of year, being able to congregate with family far and wide, and just have a great feast together.
But what people don't seem to talk about are the ones, like me, that don't really have that kind of family to spend time with. Maybe some holidays are quieter than others. Maybe this time of year is harder than the previous ones because someone you used to love spending it with isn't around anymore. And unfortunately, it's most certainly the case for so many people out there, but it's never talked about enough. If you're someone who doesn't have any plans this holiday season, and you're most likely not doing much, just know that you're just as valid as anyone else. It's okay if you can't spend the holidays with family, or if you're just focusing on yourself. You deserve just as much happiness as anyone else. You're not a scrooge, and you're not a downer just because you don't like it. Coming from someone who used to be an avid holiday lover, I can assure you that you're not alone and never will be alone.
Some things you can do is utilize social media apps like Facebook, Zoom, or even Discord (my personal favorite!) I love being able to talk to friends during the holidays because my family doesn't really do much for them anyway, and I feel much less alone. My dad used to be a heavy holiday guy, but since he's passed away 6 years ago, it hasn't been very festive in the house.
And in the event you don't have any friends to spend your holiday with, you can always contact me, and I would be delighted to lend a helping hand! Everyone needs some support every now and then. Stay safe Socialites, and remember you're loved!
